MUNICIPAL ENGINEERING

TYPICAL PROJECTS

MIG provides complete engineering and project management services to Municipalities including:

SANITARY COLLECTION AND TREATMENT SYSTEMS

Since 1969, MIG Engineering has provided complete design and construction management for sewage collection, treatment, and upgrading of facilities in a variety of small and large Municipalities

These projects required environmental assessments and complete process and detail design from determining design populations to applying for all necessary approvals and grants. The construction management phases required issuing tender packages, analyzing bids, awarding contracts, site layout, inspection, reporting, progress payments and as-built drawings.

The various projects included the design of gravity sewers, inverted syphons, small pressure systems, pumpstations, package pumpstations, forcemains, control valves, various type of pumps, various level controls (including ultrasonic) and variable speed drives for pumps -- including all necessary hardware and buildings.

In the past few years, MIG has also designed and construction managed several upgrades for existing sewage treatment facilities.

STORMWATER MANAGEMENT/DRAINAGE

MIG has been involved in Drainage Engineering since the late 1950's. More than 1,000 Drainage Reports have been issued under the Ontario Drainage Act; including some major projects such as the draining of the Lake Smith and Wawanosh Basins. Many of these projects were complex drainage systems and some required special legislature and significant inter-governmental co-operation. Key staff were involved in the development of the Drainage Act of 1975 and chaired the A.O.L.S./A.P.E.O. Joint Committees on Land Drainage.

Our Senior Hydrologists and technologists provide expertise in Stormwater Management, storage, equipment and linear infrastructure design. Our firm has recently designed and supervised the installation of a large storm water pumpstation (30,000 gpm) which included structural design for the pumpstation, pump design, and complete control design for pump operation using variable speed drives connected to level measuring devices.

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS)

MIG has been involved with GIS since 1988. Many engineering/design projects produced for municipalities have been computerized in a manner where they can be readily inserted into a full scale GIS. We are also partners of a larger consortium providing mapping/data base services for the new Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations POLARIS Program.

MIG is an owner of Universal Terrain Mapping (UTM) Ltd.; a company providing digital mapping, land information systems, and global positioning and control surveys (GPS) for private, municipal, industry, and senior-government clients.
